Dover Information

Dover in Tasmania is a small fishing town at the head of Esperance bay. Its population is less than 1,000 people and 90% of the residents in Dover were born in Australia. Dover is the second southernmost town in Australia and is very cold in climate temperature.

Originally named Port Esperance, Dover was discovered in 1792 and settled in 1804 as a convict area. After Settlement the town developed into a port for shipping Huon pine to the world.

The major industries in Dover include forestry, fishing, orchards and tourism. Atlantic salmon is the dominant fishing industry, however Cray fishing and abalone hunting are prevalent as well.

Dover is also the gateway to the Hartz Mountains National Park. The National park is a massive 71-kilometre area. In spring you will see plenty of waterfalls and abundant wildlife however in winter it is covered in snow.
