Toowoomba Information
Toowoomba, located on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, was strategically settled at the junction of the major highways connecting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin. This makes it an easily accessed city for any traveller.
The city is blooming with art, antiques and more, and is a definite place of interest for those with a sharp eye. Toowoomba boasts more than 30 fine art galleries and antique stores, all featured along the Antiques Trail.
The Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery hosts a number of touring exhibitions, and is home to a collection of paintings, fine art, drawings, books, maps, manuscripts and documents year round. The Empire Theatre and Cobb Museum are also places for the artistic traveller to visit, and include Australia’s largest collection of restored horse-drawn vehicles.
Known as the Garden City, Toowoomba is blessed with a temperate climate and along with its mountainous location allows for a remarkably diverse array of flowers, trees and shrubs. A number of national parks are also near the city, which too encompass a huge variety of flora and fauna.
Toowoomba is home to the Australian Carnival of Flowers, which it hosts every September and attracts thousands of visitors to the area.
Easter Fest is another event attracting many visitors to Toowoomba and is held annually every Easter. The weekend encompasses more than 100 Christian bands, singers and performers and has attracted upwards of 40,000 visitors.
The Toowoomba City Council has compiled six tourist walks for the curious visitor, and range from an hour long city walking tour, to an entire day’s driving expedition.
