York Information

York is one of the best kept secrets and is located just one hours drive from Perth. Originally settled in 1831, York was actually the first inland settlement in WA.

So Historic is York that it has officially been acknowledged by the Australian Heritage Commission and the National Trust of Australia.

Apart from wonderful heritage there are actually many world class attractions to be found here.

Visit the famous motor museum hosting the Peter Briggs car collection. See how convicts lived at the residency courthouse and gaol museum. Discovery history at the town hall or get some exercise while taking the famous Avon walk trail.

If that's not action enough, then how about ballooning, paragliding, horse riding, or skydiving.

When you are done with sight seeing and adventure sports then relax and enjoy a nice meal or do some shopping in town. York has plenty of great places and most are like no other.

York is also a festival town, with music and culture festivals being held annually. The York Jazz festival is usually held in September and is internationally renowned.

Other great festivals that happen yearly are the famous Avon decent and the vintage motor race. if you get your timing right York is actually a very alive and happening place.
